<p>1. Soil type and design values of both active and passive values.</p>
<p>2. Surcharge loading - can be very critical</p>
<p>3. Allowable over-stress - duration of loading a factor</p>
<p>4. I believe it takes using good engineering judgement to not have the design overly conservation.</p>
<p>5. Side pocket can and are used on many majors projects</p>
